Jo: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I'm Jo.

Helen: And I'm Helen.

Jo: Today's word is cocky. C.O.C.K.Y. Cocky.

Helen:

Jo: Well a cocky person is someone who is very self-confident and perhaps a little arrogant1.

Jo: It's quite an informal word used in a disapproving2 way.

Jo: So for example, someone you work with might think they know everything really well and make you feel less important because you don't know how to do certain things.

B: Don't get too cocky it took you two and half hours to run a half marathon!

Jo: Actually Helen, I've been studying Chinese recently and I'm getting really good.

Jo: Erm
